Facts About Milwaukee, WI
Information for Travelers
The city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is just 90 miles north of Chicago on the west side of Lake Michigan.
The largest city in the state, it is situated on the inflow of the Milwaukee River, which is joined to the city area by two tributaries: the Menomonee and the Kinnickinnic.
Perhaps the city's biggest claim to fame, however, is that it is home to the legendary Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The city is also known for its breweries, many of which offer tours that chronicle its role in the brewing industry.
And, of course, Milwaukee was the setting for the hit TV show of the 70s, Happy Days; a fun and free thing to look for is the famous "Bronze Fonz" statue of the main character of the series.
Culture
Overlooking the Menomonee River, the Harley-Davidson Museum showcases classic motorcycles, including one by Elvis Presley.
Nearby is the Milwaukee Public Museum, with its grand European village and a recreation of old Milwaukee.
