Information for Travelers
Virginia Beach, a coastal city in southeastern Virginia, is where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Known for its spectacular beaches, Virginia Beach is a paradise for vacationers, especially families, who come to swim in the ocean and sunbathe.
A 3-mile boardwalk runs along its waterfront.
The city's most popular stretch of beach is north of the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier, across from a long line of hotels.
In it you will find the famous statue of Neptune.
The casual atmosphere and relaxed pace make it a great getaway or vacation destination.
Off the beach, you can find a variety of outdoor adventures and exciting things to do.
If you feel like exercising, head to parks and natural areas for hiking or kayaking.
Get an adrenaline rush on aerial walks at Adventure Park.
On rainy days or for a break from the sun and sand, check out the zoo or some of the local museums.
First Landing State Park, beside the bay, marks the 1607 arrival of England's Jamestown settlers.
For a fun day at the beach, Virginia Aquarium is hard to beat.
Located along the banks of Owls Creek, the aquarium is beautifully positioned, with scenic outdoor areas and decks overlooking the water.
The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center showcases ocean life including sharks, rays and sea turtles in globally themed habitats.
The Military Aviation Museum is dedicated to military aircraft, with aircraft from all over the world.
On display are approximately 60 aircraft from WWI and WWII, and nearly all of them are flight worthy.
The purpose of the museum is not just to display these aircraft, but also to restore them to work.
Planes normally fly during air shows, but it is also possible to take a short trip on some of these aircraft for an additional fee.
Cape Henry Lighthouse is a former landmark on the Chesapeake Bay.
Built in 1792, it was the first lighthouse financed by the United States government and was authorized by George Washington.
You can climb the stairs to the top of this National Historic Landmark for beautiful views of the coast.
In the late 1800s, a new lighthouse was built nearby and today you can see both at Cape Henry.
The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) features exhibits ranging from paintings and sculpture to photography and video. The works are by international, national or local artists.
Each experience is different depending on what is being presented. Check the calendar to see what's happening at the museum.
