Federal Reserve rule: if a holiday falls Saturday, Reserve Banks remain open the preceding Friday. If a holiday falls Sunday, they close the following Monday.

July 3 vs. July 4, 2026: the banking exception

Friday, July 3, 2026 is not a Federal Reserve holiday. OPM treats July 3 as the federal employee holiday because Independence Day falls Saturday, July 4. The Federal Reserve uses a different Saturday rule and keeps Reserve Banks open Friday.
