Add or subtract business days

Set the shared work calendar, then choose a calculation mode.

Business-day rules vary by employer, jurisdiction and schedule. Configure the calendar below rather than assuming one universal definition.

One YYYY-MM-DD date per line. Add an optional name after |. Custom dates are combined with the selected holiday preset.

The default example crosses a weekend and U.S. Labor Day. The result shows every skipped nonworking date.

Calculate up to 25 independent workday deadlines from one anchor. All rows use the shared workweek and holiday settings.

Generate a schedule separated by a fixed number of eligible business days under the shared calendar rules.

Work-calendar definition

A business day depends on the selected calendar

Monday through Friday is common, but it is not universal. Some organizations work Sunday through Thursday, include Saturday, or close on company-specific and regional holidays.

Calendar day

Every date counts

Weekends and holidays remain in the offset.

Business day

Only eligible dates count

Disabled weekdays and selected holidays are skipped.

No universal calendar: verify employer, legal, banking or regional rules before using a deadline operationally.
Starting-date rule

Standard vs. inclusive business-day counting

The start-date rule matters whenever a deadline says the anchor is included or counting begins on the next eligible workday.

RuleEligible Monday + 1 business dayWeekend anchor
StandardTuesdayFirst later eligible day is counted
InclusiveMondayWeekend cannot count; move to first eligible day
Zero business daysMondayReturn the exact anchor

Holiday exclusions

Federal, bank, regional and company holidays

Holiday calendars differ. The U.S. preset uses modern federal observed dates for a standard Monday–Friday schedule, while custom dates can represent company closures, local holidays or another jurisdiction.

Business days calculator FAQ

What is a business days calculator?
A business days calculator moves a starting date forward or backward while counting only configured working weekdays and excluding selected holidays.
Does the starting date count as a business day?
Standard mode begins after the starting date. Inclusive mode counts the starting date as business day one only when that date is an enabled workday and is not an excluded holiday.
What happens when the starting date is a weekend or holiday?
Standard mode begins searching after the anchor. Inclusive mode cannot count a nonbusiness anchor, so it moves to the first eligible business day in the selected direction.
Can I customize which weekdays are business days?
Yes. Use a preset such as Monday through Friday, Sunday through Thursday or Monday through Saturday, or select any custom combination of weekdays.
Can I exclude public holidays?
Yes. You can apply the U.S. federal observed-holiday preset for modern years and add any custom company, regional, school or bank holiday dates.
Are U.S. federal holidays the same as every company holiday?
No. Federal holiday observance applies to federal employees under specific schedules. Private employers, state agencies, banks and international organizations may use different calendars.
Can I subtract business days to find a past deadline?
Yes. Choose Subtract and the calculator moves backward, skipping every configured nonworking weekday and holiday.
Can I calculate several deadlines from one date?
Yes. Multiple Deadlines mode calculates up to 25 independent business-day offsets from the same anchor and exports all results as CSV.
Can I generate a recurring schedule in business days?
Yes. Recurring Workdays mode creates up to 100 occurrences separated by a fixed number of eligible business days.

Methodology

How CalendarHours verifies business-day results

Each calculation uses UTC-safe Gregorian date fields. A date counts only when its weekday is enabled and it is absent from the combined holiday set. The engine separately records disabled weekdays and holiday exclusions, then applies the same logic to single deadlines, batches and recurrences.
