When Is Daylight Savings Time?
In this ultimate guide to time change you will learn when daylight savings time starts and ends in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
Also called daylight saving time or daylight saving time (DST), this is a system of uniformly advancing clocks to extend daylight saving time over conventional standard time in the summer months.
In countries in the Northern Hemisphere, clocks are generally set forward one hour at the end of March or April and set back one hour at the end of October or November.
Why Was Daylight Saving Time Created?
The practice of advancing clocks during the summer months was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784.
During the First World War, several countries in the northern hemisphere began to adopt Summer Time to reduce the need for artificial light and save electricity.
In the United States, summer time used to start in April and remain active until October.
In this country, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended summer time by approximately four weeks, from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.
2 Key Facts To Know!
1. One Hour Less Sleep: with time change we lose one hour of sleep by setting the clock ahead on Sunday during the start of summer time.
2. Health Consequences: Health groups have called for an end to the seasonal clock shift, saying the shift to DST is out of line with human circadian biology and poses too many health risks or fatal accidents.
In a study published in the journal Current Biology by researchers at the University of Washington reveals the disturbing finding that summer time would likely prevent an estimated 36,550 deer deaths, 33 human deaths, 2,054 human injuries and $1.19 billion in costs to every year.

2 Key Facts To Know!
1. Why Do We Have Summer Time: Just for political expediency, summer time is retained despite more than two-thirds of Americans expressing a willingness to stop changing their clocks, according to a YouGov poll released in March 2022.
2. When Does Daylight Savings Time End Permanently: Most countries in Asia and Africa have permanently ended DST. In the United States, the states of Hawaii and Arizona do not observe summer time, with the exception of the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona.
In today's date, we found several bills or resolutions already passed in 19 other states in the United States to make DST throughout the year.

2 Key Facts To Know!
1. In the United States: The US territories of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands do not observe DST.
2. Disadvantages of DST: On the first day we all lose an hour of sleep, as the day only lasts 23 hours when clocks go forward 1 hour. In subsequent months that extra hour of daylight is basically subtracted from morning to night when daylight saving time begins.
Final Considerations
When western countries started the tradition of daylight saving time 100 years ago, they were all really achieving the main goal of generating greater energy and fuel savings.
But nowadays this tradition is no longer efficient due to the great technological advances and the immense amount of appliances used in our daily lives.
More recent studies have concluded that the use of air conditioning, appliances and heating use rates increase during DST.
Other consequences are notable health impacts, studies released by Johns Hopkins University point to sharp increases in the adverse health consequences of changing clocks, including heart attacks and strokes.
We are in favor of the end of daylight saving time, in current life conditions its existence nullifies any energy saving objective or practical benefit.
