Brazil Time Zone Map

Brazil has four official time zones, from UTC−05:00 in Acre and western Amazonas to UTC−02:00 on Atlantic islands such as Fernando de Noronha. The map is more useful than one “Brazil time.” Brasília, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro use UTC−03:00; Manaus uses UTC−04:00; Rio Branco uses UTC−05:00; and Fernando de Noronha uses UTC−02:00. Brazil does not currently observe daylight saving time, so these modern offsets remain stable through the year.

Why the date still matters

Brazil’s Modern Offsets Are Stable — Historical Dates Are Not

Under current rules, Brazil’s four standard offsets do not change seasonally: UTC−02:00, UTC−03:00, UTC−04:00 and UTC−05:00 remain fixed through 2026. That makes a modern Brazil time-zone map easier to read than it was during the country’s former daylight-saving years.

The date picker remains important for historical research. Before daylight saving was ended in 2019, some southern, southeastern and central-western locations changed clocks seasonally. CalendarHours uses IANA date-aware rules for those older dates while keeping current 2026 offsets fixed.

Brazil Time Zones by State, Federal District and Atlantic Islands

The mainland spans UTC−03:00 to UTC−05:00, while Atlantic oceanic islands reach UTC−02:00. Amazonas is the key internal exception because the state itself is split between two legal time zones.

Brazilian Time-Zone Boundaries That Matter on a Map

These are the details that distinguish a current legal time-zone map from an old or oversimplified image of Brazil.

Amazonas

One state, two legal time zones

Eastern Amazonas, including Manaus, uses UTC−04:00. Western Amazonas uses UTC−05:00. Federal law describes the dividing line from the Tabatinga area toward Porto Acre, so a state-colored map alone cannot show the real boundary.

Acre

Brazil’s westernmost mainland clock

Acre uses UTC−05:00 year-round, two hours behind Brasília Time. The 2013 law restored Acre to this western offset after the 2008 change had temporarily moved it to UTC−04:00.

Fernando de Noronha

UTC−02:00 in the Atlantic

Fernando de Noronha and Brazil’s far-eastern Atlantic islands use the country’s easternmost legal offset, one hour ahead of Brasília and three hours ahead of Acre.

Central-West

UTC−04:00 without current DST

Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul use UTC−04:00 under current rules. Older maps may still show former summer-time shifts that are no longer in force.

Brasília Time

UTC−03:00 covers most major cities

Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza, Belém and many other population centers use UTC−03:00, but that does not make UTC−03:00 the only Brazilian time.

Daylight Saving Time

Old seasonal maps are outdated

Brazil ended federal daylight saving in 2019. As of August 23, 2026, no new decree has restored the clock change, so current Brazilian civil offsets remain standard year-round.

The interactive clock uses IANA time-zone identifiers and browser Intl APIs for date-aware calculations. Modern dates follow Brazil’s current year-round standard offsets; historical dates may show former daylight-saving transitions. Base geography is derived from Natural Earth through world-atlas data, and detailed IANA-aligned polygons are treated as approximate visual geometry rather than legal survey boundaries.
