Brazil Time Zone

Brazil has four official time zones, spanning UTC−05:00 to UTC−02:00. Brasília Time (UTC−03:00) covers Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and most of the country's population, while western Brazil and Atlantic islands use different clocks. Brazil does not currently observe daylight saving time.

Brazil is not one UTC−3 time zone. UTC−03:00 is the country's principal reference, but Manaus is one hour behind Brasília, Acre is two hours behind, and Fernando de Noronha is one hour ahead. The correct IANA identifier depends on the actual location.

Why Brazil Is Not Just UTC−3

Brasília Time is the principal reference used for the federal capital, national broadcasts and most major population centers, but Brazil's legal time extends three hours from west to east. When it is noon in Rio Branco, it is 1:00 p.m. in Manaus, 2:00 p.m. in Brasília and 3:00 p.m. in Fernando de Noronha.

Does Brazil Observe Daylight Saving Time?

No. Brazil ended daylight saving time nationwide in 2019. Under current rules, Acre Time stays at UTC−05:00, Amazon Time at UTC−04:00, Brasília Time at UTC−03:00 and Fernando de Noronha Time at UTC−02:00 throughout the year.
