Did Proposition 7 End Daylight Saving Time in California?

No. California Proposition 7, approved in 2018, allowed the Legislature—with a two-thirds vote—to change the state’s daylight-saving period when the change is consistent with federal law. The Legislative Analyst’s Office stated that absent a valid legislative change, California would maintain the current seasonal DST period.

California therefore continues to switch between PST and PDT under the current rules. A vote to study or authorize future changes is not the same as an enacted permanent-time rule.
