Nevada Time Zone

Nevada has two official time zones. Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City, Henderson, Laughlin and nearly all of the state use Pacific Time (PT). West Wendover, on the Utah border, is officially in Mountain Time (MT) and is normally one hour ahead.

Quick answer: Most Nevada searches should use Pacific Time: PST at UTC−08:00 in standard time and PDT at UTC−07:00 during daylight saving time. West Wendover is the legal exception, using MST at UTC−07:00 and MDT at UTC−06:00.

Why Is West Wendover in Mountain Time?

Because the federal Pacific–Mountain boundary specifically detours around the City of West Wendover. Under 49 CFR §71.9(b), the line runs south along the Utah–Nevada boundary to West Wendover's northern border, follows the city's northern, western and southern boundaries, then returns to the state line. That puts the city on the Mountain Time side while surrounding Nevada territory remains on the Pacific side.

Is Nevada Ending Daylight Saving Time?

No change is in force as of August 20, 2026. Nevada lawmakers considered two major permanent-standard-time proposals in the 2025 session. AB81 would have exempted Nevada from seasonal DST and placed the state on standard time year-round, but no further action was allowed after the legislative deadline. SB94 passed the Legislature but was vetoed by the Governor on June 2, 2025.

Nevada therefore continues to use PST/PDT in most of the state and MST/MDT in West Wendover. In 2026, clocks moved forward on March 8 and are scheduled to move back on November 1 at 2:00 a.m. local time.
