Is Massachusetts Switching to Atlantic Time or Permanent Time?

Not under current law as of August 20, 2026. Massachusetts still follows the seasonal Eastern Time system: EST in standard time and EDT during daylight saving time.

Senate Bill S.2157 proposes a conditional move to Atlantic Standard Time without seasonal clock changes if regional conditions are met. The bill was reported favorably in March 2026 and is currently referred to the Senate Committee on Rules. A separate proposal, H.3405, sought permanent standard time but was accompanied by a study order on March 9, 2026. Neither proposal has changed the clock currently used by Massachusetts.
