Does All of Minnesota Have the Same Time?
Yes. Minnesota uses Central Time statewide. The state has 87 counties, and none is assigned to Mountain, Eastern or Pacific Time. Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Rochester, Duluth, Moorhead and International Falls therefore follow the same CST/CDT schedule.

No in-state zone lineYou never change official time zones simply by traveling between Minnesota communities.
One seasonal switchWhen Minnesota moves between CST and CDT, the entire state changes together.
Does Minnesota Have Permanent Daylight Saving Time?
Not yet. Minnesota Statutes §645.071 still follows the federal standard-time and daylight-saving framework. A 2021 state-law amendment is already written to switch Minnesota to advanced standard time year-round—the statute's term for daylight saving time—if federal law is amended to let states choose permanent daylight time.
That federal trigger has not occurred as of August 20, 2026. Minnesota therefore continues to use CST in standard time and CDT during daylight saving time, with the normal spring and fall clock changes. The conditional law matters because Minnesota would not need to start from zero legislatively if federal permission is eventually granted.
