Is SIX Swiss Exchange Open Today?

For Blue Chip and Mid-/Small-Cap Shares, SIX's detailed July 2026 guide shows pre-opening from 6:00 AM, randomized opening between 9:00–9:02 AM, continuous trading until 5:20 PM, a closing auction to 5:30 PM with randomized uncross to about 5:32 PM, then Trading-At-Last until 5:40 PM Zurich time.

What time does SIX open?

Pre-opening begins 6:00 AM; equity opening uncross is randomized between 9:00 and about 9:02 AM.

What time does SIX close?

Continuous trading ends 5:20 PM; closing auction/random uncross and TAL continue to 5:40 PM.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow Opens

Normal Swiss equity schedule unless tomorrow is a SIX market holiday.

Tomorrow Ends

TAL to 5:40 PM applies to the primary Blue Chip and Mid-/Small-Cap segments represented here.

The biggest ranking opportunity is the 17:30 simplification. SIX itself summarizes Shares and Investment Funds as 09:00–17:30, but its detailed trading material shows that continuous trading actually stops at 17:20. The 17:20–17:30 period is the closing auction; its uncross can randomize to roughly 17:32, then eligible primary Swiss shares use Trading-At-Last until 17:40.

SIX Swiss Exchange hours in your local time

SIX uses Switzerland's local clock. CalendarHours anchors live status to Europe/Zurich, handling CET and CEST automatically instead of hard-coding a UTC offset.

SIX randomizes both the equity opening and closing uncross by up to two minutes. The converter therefore treats those as phase windows rather than deterministic timestamps.

Current SIX Swiss Exchange Trading Hours — July 2026

SIX states that the overall business day runs from 06:00–22:00, but actual executable trading periods differ by segment. The table below keeps the primary Swiss equity answer separate from ETFs, structured products, bonds and other segments.

SMI Search Intent

Are SMI trading hours the same as SIX Swiss Exchange hours?

SMI is an index, not a separate stock exchange. Its constituent shares are among SIX's Blue Chip Shares, so the useful cash-equity lifecycle is the Swiss share schedule shown above.

That means a trader asking when SMI constituent stocks are active should look at the random 09:00–09:02 opening, continuous trading to 17:20, closing auction and TAL to 17:40.

Cash vs SMI Futures

Why can SMI futures trade until 10:00 PM?

Because SMI futures trade on Eurex, not in the SIX cash-equity order book.

Eurex currently publishes SMI Futures with pre-trading from 7:30 AM, continuous trading from 7:50 AM and the normal trading-day close at 10:00 PM CET. The last trading day has a much earlier 9:00 AM end-of-trading rule.

The cash-equity live badge on this page therefore must not stay “open” merely because an SMI futures contract is still trading in the evening.

SwissAtMid

Is SwissAtMid open when SIX is in an auction?

No. SIX says SwissAtMid orders can execute only when the corresponding CLOB security is in the status Continuous Trading.

For a normal Blue Chip or Mid-/Small-Cap share, SwissAtMid therefore becomes executable only after the randomized opening uncross and stops when the CLOB enters its 5:20 PM closing auction.

This distinction is useful because the overall SIX business day runs 06:00–22:00, but SwissAtMid is not an all-day dark-pool execution window.

TAL Eligibility

Does every Swiss-listed share trade until 5:40 PM?

No. The detailed SIX July 2026 guide lists Trading-At-Last to 17:40 for Blue Chip Shares, Mid-/Small-Cap Shares and Sparks Shares.

Other equity-related segments, including Secondary Listed Shares and Sponsored Foreign Shares, are listed without a TAL endpoint. The live badge is therefore deliberately scoped to primary Swiss shares rather than every instrument carrying an XSWX venue code.

SIX Product Hours Traders Commonly Confuse

“SIX Swiss Exchange hours” depends on the product. The live answer remains scoped to primary Swiss equities, while these product clocks are shown separately.

E

ETFs & ETPs

Trade from 09:00 to 17:30, followed by a closing auction through 17:35; not the same end-of-day structure as Swiss shares.

X

Extended Structured Products

Selected structured products can trade 08:00–21:45, far beyond ordinary cash-equity hours.

Year-End Accuracy

Is SIX open on Dec. 24 or Dec. 31, 2026?

No. SIX lists both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve as full 2026 market holidays.

That matters when comparing European exchanges: some venues use shortened year-end sessions, while SIX is completely closed on both dates.

The live engine therefore does not apply a half-day cutoff or historical early close to these dates.

Currency Holiday Trap

Currency holiday does not always mean exchange holiday

SIX publishes both a Trading Holiday Calendar and a Currency Holiday Calendar. The second describes settlement availability for specific currencies.

A holiday affecting settlement in USD, EUR or another currency should not automatically be interpreted as the whole Swiss stock exchange being closed. This page's live engine uses the Trading Holiday Calendar.

CET vs CEST

Does SIX Swiss Exchange change clocks?

Yes. Zurich uses CET (UTC+1) in winter and CEST (UTC+2) in summer.

CalendarHours uses `Europe/Zurich`, so the pre-open, randomized open, closing auction and TAL phases convert correctly throughout the year.

No Lunch Break

Does SIX Swiss Exchange close for lunch?

No. Main Swiss equities do not have a scheduled midday lunch break.

After the randomized opening, continuous trading runs until the 5:20 PM closing-auction phase, subject to trading interruptions.

SIX Swiss Exchange Hours FAQ

Is SIX Swiss Exchange open today?

For the main Swiss equity segments such as Blue Chip Shares and Mid-/Small-Cap Shares, the SIX business day begins with pre-opening at 6:00 AM Zurich time. The opening auction uncross occurs randomly between 9:00 AM and about 9:02 AM, continuous trading then runs until 5:20 PM, the closing auction runs from 5:20 PM to 5:30 PM with a random uncross extending to about 5:32 PM, and Trading-At-Last continues until 5:40 PM on eligible primary Swiss share segments, subject to the 2026 SIX holiday calendar.

What time does SIX Swiss Exchange open?

The SIX business day begins at 6:00 AM with pre-opening. Main Swiss shares open through an auction beginning at 9:00 AM, with the actual opening uncross randomized within a two-minute window, so continuous trading can begin between roughly 9:00 AM and 9:02 AM.

What time does SIX Swiss Exchange close?

For Blue Chip and Mid-/Small-Cap Shares, continuous trading ends at 5:20 PM. The closing auction runs from 5:20 PM to 5:30 PM and can uncross randomly until about 5:32 PM. Trading-At-Last then continues until 5:40 PM. The exchange business day itself continues in post-trading until 10:00 PM, but that is not normal equity execution.

Why do many websites say SIX trades from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM?

SIX uses 9:00 AM–5:30 PM as a convenient headline for shares, but the detailed trading guide shows that continuous trading ends at 5:20 PM and the final ten minutes to 5:30 PM are a closing auction. The closing uncross can then be randomized until approximately 5:32 PM, and eligible Swiss shares can use Trading-At-Last until 5:40 PM.

What are SIX Swiss Exchange pre-market hours?

Pre-opening begins at 6:00 AM and lasts until the opening of the relevant trading segment. For main Swiss equities, that means orders can be entered or cancelled from 6:00 AM until the randomized opening auction beginning at 9:00 AM. No trades execute during pre-opening.

What time is the SIX closing auction?

For Shares and Investment Funds, the closing auction begins at 5:20 PM and runs to 5:30 PM. The detailed SIX trading guide gives the auction a random ending of up to two minutes, so the closing price may be established between 5:30 PM and approximately 5:32 PM.

What is Trading-At-Last on SIX Swiss Exchange?

Trading-At-Last is the post-closing-auction phase during which eligible orders can execute at the official closing price. SIX currently publishes TAL until 5:40 PM for Blue Chip Shares and Mid-/Small-Cap Shares, and its detailed July 2026 guide also lists TAL for Sparks Shares.

Do all SIX-listed shares have Trading-At-Last?

No. The July 2026 SIX trading-hours guide lists TAL to 5:40 PM for Blue Chip Shares, Mid-/Small-Cap Shares and Sparks Shares, but not for every equity-related segment. Secondary Listed Shares and Sponsored Foreign Shares, for example, are listed without a TAL endpoint.

What are SIX ETF trading hours?

SIX publishes ETF and ETP trading from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, followed by a closing auction from 5:30 PM to 5:35 PM. This differs from Swiss shares, whose closing auction begins earlier at 5:20 PM.

What are SIX structured product trading hours?

SIX has both regular and extended structured-product schedules. Regular structured products are listed from 9:15 AM to 5:15 PM, while Structured Products with Extended Trading Hours can trade from 8:00 AM to 9:45 PM.

What is SwissAtMid and when can it trade?

SwissAtMid is SIX's non-displayed midpoint liquidity pool. Orders can execute there only when the corresponding Central Limit Order Book security is in Continuous Trading. For a normal Blue Chip or Mid-/Small-Cap share, that means SwissAtMid becomes executable after the randomized opening and stops when the CLOB leaves continuous trading for the 5:20 PM closing auction.

What are SIX Swiss Exchange holidays in 2026?

The official 2026 SIX trading calendar lists January 1, January 2, April 3, April 6, May 1, May 14, May 25, December 24, December 25 and December 31 as market holidays. Saturdays and Sundays are also closed.

Is SIX Swiss Exchange open on Swiss National Day 2026?

Swiss National Day falls on Saturday, August 1, 2026. SIX is already closed for the weekend, so there is no weekday trading session to cancel.

Is SIX Swiss Exchange open on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve 2026?

No. SIX lists both December 24 and December 31, 2026 as full market holidays. They are not shortened trading days.

Are SMI trading hours the same as SIX Swiss Exchange hours?

SMI is an index, not a separate cash exchange. Its constituent shares are primarily Blue Chip Shares on SIX and therefore follow the Swiss equity lifecycle on this page. SMI futures are separate Eurex derivatives: the current Eurex schedule shows pre-trading from 7:30 AM, continuous trading from 7:50 AM and a normal-day close at 10:00 PM CET.

Does SIX Swiss Exchange close for lunch?

No. Main Swiss equities do not have a scheduled midday lunch break. After the randomized opening, continuous trading runs until the 5:20 PM closing-auction phase, subject to trading interruptions.

What time zone does SIX Swiss Exchange use?

SIX follows Zurich local time. CalendarHours uses Europe/Zurich so CET and CEST seasonal changes are handled automatically.

Accuracy & Methodology

How CalendarHours verifies SIX Swiss Exchange hours

CalendarHours prioritizes SIX's current Trading Hours page, the Trading Hours and Business Day guides valid as of July 1, 2026, the official Trading Holiday Calendar, SwissAtMid documentation and segment-specific ETF/ETP pages. The live engine is anchored to `Europe/Zurich`.

The current detailed guide identifies 06:00 pre-opening, 09:00 opening with a randomized two-minute window, 17:20 start of the equity closing auction, 17:30 scheduled close with a randomized two-minute uncross, TAL to 17:40 and 22:00 end of business day for Blue Chip and Mid-/Small-Cap Shares. That is more precise than the rounded public headline of 09:00–17:30.

TAL eligibility is not assumed for every share-like instrument. The July 2026 guide lists TAL for Blue Chip, Mid-/Small-Cap and Sparks Shares, while Secondary Listed Shares and Sponsored Foreign Shares are shown without TAL. The live badge therefore represents the primary Swiss-equity intent.

ETFs and ETPs were checked separately because their closing sequence differs: SIX publishes 09:00–17:30 trading with a closing auction to 17:35. Structured Products with Extended Trading Hours are separately published at 08:00–21:45.

The official 2026 SIX Trading Holiday Calendar lists January 1, January 2, April 3, April 6, May 1, May 14, May 25, December 24, December 25 and December 31 as market holidays. CalendarHours uses this trading calendar, not currency-settlement holidays, to decide whether the exchange itself is closed.

SMI futures are treated as derivatives, not SIX cash equities. Eurex currently publishes normal SMI Futures continuous trading from 07:50 to 22:00 CET, with separate last-trading-day rules.

Live page date: . Actual SIX market states, segment-specific parameters, randomized auction timing and newer official notices control over rounded webpage times.
